At JPSA, we recognize that a strong and vibrant Jewish community depends first and foremost on a fundamental sense of safety. Without it, the most essential expressions of Jewish life become uncertain: sending children to school, gathering for Shabbat, entering communal spaces. In the last few years, this reality came into sharper focus than ever before. It reinforced our responsibility not only to respond, but to actively safeguard the conditions that allow Jewish life to flourish across Southern Arizona.
JPSA’s Community Security Initiative is how we carry out that responsibility, every day.
Every day, our Community Security Directors serve local synagogues and Jewish organizations, institutions, and agencies in numerous ways, including the following:
Conducting facility security assessments.
Recommending security enhancements and other protective measures.
Coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Providing security training for community organizations and individuals including Active Shooter, Suspicious Activity, Situational Awareness, and Stop the Bleed.
Attending neighborhood and interfaith meetings, hearings, programs, briefings, and other critical sources of information for our community.
Briefing JPSA leadership and beneficiary agencies on an ongoing and as-needed basis.
Providing assessments and assisting with grant preparations necessary for organizations to secure federal non-profit security grants (totaling nearly $1.5 million between 2021-2023).
Addressing communal security needs and responding to concerns.
Watch how JPSA’s Community Security programming is making a difference in Southern Arizona.
All these essential security measures are funded by generous donors to JPSA and provided at no cost to our community.
